The skincare glossary
If your eyes glaze over when you're bombarded with skincare buzzwords (Hyaluronic acid? Acid...on my face!?) or you're constantly searching TikTok for ✌️expert opinions✌️ and (*cough* unqualified) advice, here's your very own cheat sheet, from the big-name brands themselves. P.S. remember that all skin is different, so always assess what you think *you* need for your own goals when it comes to ingredients...
REVOLUTION
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
"Niacinamide offers so many skin benefits, it’s such a well-rounded ingredient that helps to soothe and clarify pores. It balances oil production and calming redness for more refined, healthy-looking skin. Versatility is its strength: all skin types can use niacinamide, results just depend on the strength and where you use it in your routine. For example, if you have normal to oily skin, you will likely benefit from an intense strength such as the Revolution Skincare 10% Niacinamide and 1% Zinc Serum. If you have a more dry-sensitive skin type, it might be easier to factor in niacinamide with a lower strength gentle mist, toner or moisturiser."

ANATOMICALS
Glycolic Acid
“Glycolic Acid is an AHA that chemically exfoliates the skin by dissolving dead skin cells and oils, improving skin tone and texture. Glycolic acid is suitable for all skin types, but the better option for those with dry or sensitive skin. It's particularly beneficial for mature skin with fine lines, skin prone to blemishes and hyperpigmentation. Overall use of glycolic acid is dependent on the concentration. However, if you’re new to chemical exfoliants, it’s best to work up to using weekly in the evenings.
An easy way to incorporate it into your routine is through a cleanser, which is quickly washed off.
L-ascorbic acid (also known as vitamin C), should not be applied immediately after using topical AHAs or BHAs as this can cause skin irritation and redness. So, if you are using a vitamin C product, perhaps try it on different days. It’s best to use your BHA in the morning and your AHA at night. They could be used on alternate nights. The acids can be layered over each other, but this increases the risk of irritation and dryness. The signs of overuse include burning, or peeling; redness and inflammation; or wax-like skin texture. OH K!
Vitamin C
“Our Oh K! Vitamin sheet mask works to hydrate dry skin and improve uneven skin tone. Vitamin C is antioxidant-rich, so it also helps to protect the skins barrier. This mask also has an added sachet of powdered vitamin C which stops the formula from oxidating and becoming less effective. Vitamin C also helps improve skin hydration with added moisturising benefits blended in. It also helps protect against environmental stressors during the day such as pollution and UV rays. As well as brightening an uneven skin tone and giving your skin a much-needed glow, the antioxidant is also great at fading hyperpigmentation or scarring caused from any unwanted spots. Vitamin C is also great in aiding the production of collagen, which promotes elasticity in the skin.
To achieve glowing skin, we recommend using the Oh K! Vitamin C sheet mask once a week. Cleanse your face thoroughly first and pat dry. Next, tear the package and massage the miracle vitamin C powder into the sachet until it dissolves. Apply the mask and leave it on your skin for 10-15 minutes, remove and pat remaining essence into skin to reveal a glowing brighter complexion.”
